Dynea offers innovative revamp services for existing formaldehyde plants. Elements of the fasil® technology can be retrofitted in order to boost capacities, lower methanol consumption figures, increase steam export and increase formaldehyde strength levels.
Revamping improves the efficiency of existing formaldehyde plants, boosting sustainability while simulateneously extending the economic lifetime.

With a limited set of technical data at hands, it is already possible to identify potential for improvement and develop an early revamp concept. Take contact with us for a non-binding case evaluation.

Revamp success story

Dynea revamped LERG SA formaldehyde plant with elements of the fasil® process technology. The revamped achieved the targets to increase the production capacity by 20%, increase the product concentration from 47% to 52% w/w, while simultaneously reducing the methanol consumption by 5%.

From feasibility study to start-up

Dynea conducted a revamp feasibility study to identify the potential for improvement and made specific proposals for changes to LERG's plant, including cost estimate and payback calculations. After evaluation of the feasibility study's outcome by LERG, Dynea was awarded the contract for detail engineering together with engineering partner Pörner, who did piping and electrical design.

Existing equipment was reused as much as possible. New operating conditions for the existing blowers were implemented, as well as a new column combining a selective absorption section, a vaporizer and a filter. The existing absorber was revamped with new internals and packing and circulation pumps and heat exchangers were resized.

Results

  • Capacity (TPY 100% FA): 25 000 -> 30 700
  • FA in product (w/w): 47,0% -> 52,1%
  • MeOH in product (w/w): 2,50% -> 0,82%
  • MeOH consumption (kg per ton FA 100%): 1 260 -> 1 203
We are proud that the project targets were met within time and budget.

Prefere Melamines

Revamp success story

Dynea revamped Prefere Melamines formaldehyde plant with elements of the fasil® process technology. The following revamp targets were achieved:

  • Capacity increased by 54%
  • Steam export per ton FA 100% increased by >50%
  • Methanol consumption per ton FA 100% decreased by 8%

Existing reactors were replaced by a single fasil® reactor and steam drum, which in addition to the increased efficiency also is an significant increase in operational convenience. A new vaporizer was installed, and a selective absorption column was added. Existing blowers and absorption columns were reused.

We are proud that all project targets were met, contributing significantly to Prefere's competitiveness in the European market.
