Dynea will be present at the World Methanol Conference 2025 by Chemical Market Analytics, taking place 14-16 October in Lisbon, Portugal.

Formaldehyde is the largest derivative of methanol. When performing a Life Cycle Assessment of formaldehyde, more than 90% of the carbon emissions can be allocated to methanol as raw material. Using green methanol made from renewable carbon dioxide and green hydrogen can therefore effectively decarbonize formaldehyde production.

It seems attractive to intensify the process and produce formaldehyde directly from carbon dioxide and hydrogen, instead of first reducing carbon dioxide to methanol, to subsequently oxidize it back to formaldehyde. Is the methanol industry at risk of losing its largest derivative?
