Emulsion Polymer Isocyanate (EPI) Adhesive
Emulsion Polymer Isocyanate (EPI) adhesives are two-component adhesives based on reaction of a mixture of water based emulsions of SBR, EVA and PVAc type with an isocyanate hardener (crosslinker) forming water-resistant bonds. They can be classified as thermoplastic adhesives with properties very close to thermosetting adhesives. EPI adhesives can be formulated in many ways to give the optimal performance with respect to water resistance, curing speed, type of substrate, strength and viscosity in each bonding operation.
Dynea manufactures a broad range of EPI adhesives which are used mainly for solid wood lamination and finger jointing. Our EPI's, however, can also be used for gluing aluminium and different plastic foils to wooden boards, e.g., doors, composite plywood and panel for loading platforms.
EPI adhesives are cold-setting with very good adhesion to difficult hardwoods and are fast curing even at high wood moisture content. For optimum use, it is recommended that the EPI products are used together with a suitable mixing equipment.
Dynea’s EPI adhesives can be custom-tailored for each individual customer to meet specific requirement and performance criteria and are capable of meeting various performance criteria required by different standards such as JAS, EN and ASTM.
