Dynea AsWood™ resins win Technology Award

Dynea’s Technology Award has been presented to Wolfgang Heep and the “AsWood™ - Protein Modified Phenol-Formaldehyde Resins” project. AsWood™ is Dynea’s brand of formaldehyde-based resins used to produce industrial panel boards and other wood-based products with a formaldehyde emission level equivalent to the level found in solid wood.

“At Dynea we believe that technology gives us the possibility to anticipate and fulfill customer needs that they may not have even thought of yet,” says Roger Carlstedt, Dynea President and CEO. “We develop innovative low environmental impact solutions that will help our customers meet environmental and business demands today as well as in the future.”

AsWood – with nature’s own emission levels

Dynea and Cargill, in cooperation with the Dresden Institute for Wood Technology (IHD) have developed the protein modified Phenol-Formaldehyde (pPF) resin, which is part of Dynea’s AsWood™ resins product family. Cargill is an international provider of food, agricultural and risk management products and services. IHD is a leading research and service centre of the wood industry.

The wood-based bonded boards produced with this new technology exhibit formaldehyde emission levels as low as those found in solid, untreated wood. In addition to achieving these ground-breaking, extremely low emission levels, the AsWood™ resin also contributes to superior surface quality in the final product. The AsWood™ pPF technology, which has been jointly patented by Dynea, IHD and Cargill, is presently successfully commercialised.

The Dynea Technology Award

The recipient of the Dynea Technology Award, Wolfgang Heep, Marketing and Sales Manager, Dynea Erkner GmbH, has had a central role in the development and marketing of the pPF resin, part of the AsWood™ product family.

Every year, the Dynea Technology Award offers Dynea employees the opportunity to show case their outstanding scientific, technical or process achievements. This award aims to promote creativity and innovation as well as motivate technical personnel by giving a person or team public recognition as well as a monetary reward.
